CDC recommends using puncture-proof gloves, or pliers or tongs to pick up used needles. The needles should be placed in a ‘sharps’ container (one that is designed for needle disposal) or other puncture-proof container.
Thoroughly wash/sanitize hands after handling. If a needle ‘stick’ occurs, get to a medical professional immediately for possible disease-preventative treatment.
Container should be taken to an appropriate disposal site:
Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment Sells sharps containers and will take them back for disposal 101 W 9th St., (719)-583-4300
Southern Colorado Harm Reduction Association 1249 E. Routt St., 1-4 p.m. Saturdays (719)-289-7149
Access Point Pueblo (Southern Colorado Health Network office) 807 N. Greenwood, Ste. 200, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays (719)-621-1105
Please do not throw needles away in the general trash.
The Pueblo Fire Dept. DOES NOT have a public program for used needle disposal. Please take any needles to the above listed sites for appropriate disposal
